Obituary for Edward Selke
Edward Selke 78, of Morton formally of Peoria passed away at 12 midnight on February 8, 2008 at his home. Born in Sheboygan, WI on May 18, 1929 to Rudolph and Wilhelmina Mielke Selke, he married Shirley Orr in Madison, WI on September 8, 1957. She survives along with his daughters; Lynn (Terry) Isbell of Elmwood, Laura (Pete) Martin of Morton, Jennifer “Willy” (Matt) Lovin of Washington, one son and daughter-in-law, sisters; Ruth (Fritz) Fibigir and Lucille Baumann both of Sheboygan, WI and his 12 grandchildren. His parents, 2 brothers and 3 sisters preceded him in death. Edward served in the Air force during WWII and was a Research Chemist for the USDA Lab, retiring in 1990. After 32 years of service in the Lab, he was recognized as an expert in Head Space Analysis on the degradation of cooking oil. He had 51 scientific publications, and 1 U.S. Patent. These publications were major contributions in the development of the field of Mass Spectrometery. He has been a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Peoria since 1959, were he served on many of its board’s; he enjoyed bowling, playing bridge with the Concordia Bridge Group and loved to travel. A funeral will be held on Tuesday, February 12, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 135 NE Randolph Ave. Peoria, Rev. James Bittermann will officiate. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 6:30 p.m. at the church on Monday and one hour prior to the service also at the church. Cremation will be accorded following the service. Memorials may be made in his name to his church. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. is assisting the family with arrangements.
