Obituary for Dr. Duane L. Mach
Dr. Duane L. Mach of Peoria, peacefully passed away the morning of February 8,
2019 at Proctor Place surrounded by family.

Duane was born on the family farm near Narka, Kansas on March 1, 1933 to
Bohman H. and Dorothy (Paulichek) Mach. He married Virleen Bartel on August 16,
1953 in Belleville, Kansas.

Dr. Mach is survived by his wife, Virleen of Peoria; their son, Scott (Patty) of
Shawnee, Kansas; two grandsons, Brett (Julie) of Platte City, Missouri, Cooper (Kaitlin)
of Overland Park, Kansas and granddaughter, Carolina of Kansas City, Missouri; great-
granddaughters, Alma and Leslie Mach; brother, Rick (Bea); sister, Beverly George;
sister-in-law, Nancy Mach and numerous nephews and nieces. Duane was preceded in
death by his parents, brother Donald, and brother-in-law Richard George.

Duane grew up around animals and enjoyed being a member of the Narka 4-H
Club along with his brothers and sister. He attended Narka schools where he met his
future bride his freshman year. He later graduated from Belleville High School where he
starred in basketball and was named to National Honor Society. He attended Kansas
State University earning a bachelor of science degree in Agriculture, a bachelor's degree
in Arts and Sciences and a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine.

He moved his family to Peoria in 1960, when he joined the McGinnis and
England veterinary practice. Duane continued to build the practice with his partner Dr.
Robert Polley, eventually renaming it Meadowbrook Veterinary Clinic. He retired in
1998 and his legacy remains as that practice continues today.

Duane was a lifetime member of the American Veterinary Medical Association
and the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association. He held membership in the American
Veterinary Hospital Association; Mississippi Valley Veterinary Association; and the Tri
County Veterinary Medical Association. Duane was selected for the "Gentle Doctor"
award by Fort Dodge Laboratories.

Duane and Virleen were active members of First Presbyterian Church. now
known as United Presbyterian Church. He was an ordained elder, served on the
foundation board, and in later years, loved working on "The Chimes" newsletter
distribution.

He participated in the Downtown Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow.
He enjoyed playing tennis and golf league with friends from Willow Knolls Country
Club. Many happy moments were shared with his longtime friends from Potluck and
Supper Club. Duane also loved woodworking, volunteering his skillful hands building
display cases for many models at the Wheels of Time museum.

Duane and Virleen loved traveling the world with family and friends. Duane
especially enjoyed cruises visiting 6 of the 7 continents. His favorite places included
Sanibel Island, Florida, Pentwater, Michigan, Gulf Shores, Alabama and of course, many
trips to Kansas to visit loved ones.

The family thanks all our friends for their loving support during this difficult time.

A memorial service will be this Saturday, February 16, 2019 at United
Presbyterian Church, 2400 West Northmoor Road, Peoria, Illinois. Visitation will begin
at 9:30 am followed by the service at 11 :00 am. Family and friends are invited to lunch
in the church's fellowship hall after the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests
memorials be made to United Presbyterian Church MAP (Mortgage Abatement Program)
in care of the church.
