Obituary for Dorothy D. Smith
Dorothy D. Smith 88, passed away at 7:45 p.m. Thursday June 18, 2009 at the home of her granddaughter in Pekin. Mrs. Smith had made her home in the Dent, Minnesota area for many years prior to returning to Pekin, where she has been cared for by her family the past 5 years. She is the widow of long-time Pekin Police Detective Ed Smith. He preceded her in death December 2, 1974. Dorothy and Ed were active in Masonic organizations for many years in Pekin. She had been employed as a Telephone Operator by Middle States Telephone Co. in Pekin and later served as a school Crossing Guard for more than 20 years. Born May 11, 1921 in Limestone Twp., Peoria County. She was a daughter of Hobert and Daisy Sleeter McBride. She married Orville Edwin Smith on New Year’s day 1948 in Pekin. She is survived by her daughter Meriel Yvonne Look; her granddaughter Leigh Look; four great-grandchildren, Jeff, Mary, Brent and Breigh; and four great-greatgrandchildren, Dalton, Gavin, Marissah and Carly. Survivors also include two brothers, George McBride of Pekin, Laverne McBride of Pekin; and one sister, Betty Wall of Glasford. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Valerie Ann; her brother Don and sisters; Aline and Pauline. Cremation rites will be accorded and no service is planned. Memorial contributions may be made to Woodrow Cemetery in care of Abts Mortuary, 905 S. 5th St. Pekin. Arrangements have been entrusted to Abts Mortuary.
