Obituary for Doris A. Wenger

Doris Henrietta Wenger, 93, of Mapleton, IL passed away Tuesday, November 22, 2022, at Liberty Village Manor Court in Peoria, IL.


She was born November 13, 1929, in Ridgeway, IA to Henry James and Dora Belle Culbert Armstrong.


She married Wilburn Joseph Wenger; he preceded her in death December 29, 2006. Her parents; sister, Hazel Culbert and brother, James E. Armstrong also preceded her in death.


She is survived by her children, David L. Wenger, Donna J. Wenger, Diane K. (Thomas) Shields; grandchildren, Tasha (Marcelo) Machado, Derek (Mona) Wenger, Gabriel (Amy) Wenger, Thomas (Jamie) Shields, Patricia (Doug) Cook; greatgrandchildren, Morgan Cook, Alyssa Cook, Addison Shields, Emma Wenger, Andrew Wenger, Darren Wenger, Kyle Harmison, Ryan Cook, Joseph Shields, Mateo Machado; sisters, Edith (late, Donald) Rusk, Betty (late, Donald) Scheeler and many nieces and nephews.


Doris worked at Roszell’s Sealtest Dairy for over 20 years as a comptometer operator, a baker and waitress for Mister Doughnut for many years and for Caterpillar in Mossville, IL as a forklift operator.


She loved her family and enjoyed traveling, reading, sewing, gardening and crafts. Doris taught Sunday School for many years at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville, IL. She loved being a Girl Scout leader for many troops. Doris was a good mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, daughter, and sister.


Cremation has been accorded and a memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2022, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior at St. John Lutheran Church in Bartonville, IL. Burial will follow at Swan Lake Memory Gardens in Peoria, IL. Everyone is welcome to join the family back at the church following the burial for a luncheon.


Memorials may be made to St. John Lutheran Church in her name.


The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements. Online condolences may be made at csmico.com
