Danny Ray Holt, 72, of East Peoria passed away on Wednesday November 13, 2024, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center in Peoria, IL.
He was born on July 1, 1952, to Coy Gene and Nettie Ray Holt in Beach Bluff, Tennessee.
Danny married Delores Nagel of East Peoria on November 22nd, 1986, after being together for two years. Danny cherished every second of the last 40 years alongside his beautiful wife.
Danny was a lifelong resident of the area and a cherished member of his community.
Danny was a devoted husband to Delores Holt, and loving father to Sheila (Bill) Miller and Randy (Katie) Billingsley Jr and brother to Donna (Larry) Bruell. Danny was a proud grandfather to 7 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren, who brought immense joy and laughter into his life. Another loving member of his family was Vivian (Coy) Holt and her daughter, Jan (Jim) Bevard.
Danny began his career as a semi driver with long haul trips and later transitioned to day loads, which allowed him more time at home with his family.
Danny's interests extended beyond his professional life into his personal love of racing. From the age of 9, he assisted his father, Coy Holt, in his garage working on race cars. For many years, Danny was a familiar face at the Peoria Speedway, both behind the wheel and his son (Randy) and two grandsons (Coy Ray) (Cameron) will continue the racing tradition that Danny has passed on to them. One of his proudest moments was helping his son (Randy) win the season championship, just like his son helped him win the Pepsi championship.
Danny also played music at several places including nursing homes, American legions, and personal benefits with his friends, family, and son. Another tradition his family will carry on.
A Celebration of Life for Danny will be planned at a future date to honor his memory and legacy at Main Street family restaurant, Creve Coeur.
Danny's kind nature, his love for his family, and his enthusiasm for stock car racing will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
