Obituary for Curtis James Bruns
Curtis “Curt” James Bruns, 53, of Pekin passed away at 4:31 a.m. Friday, May 20, in his home after losing his courageous battle with cancer.
Born March 17, 1963, in Billings, Montana to James J. Bruns and Patricia “Pat” (Krigner) Mahoney, he married Sindy Sharp in 2000 in Peoria. She survives.
Also surviving are his parents Pat and Joe Mahoney of Mapleton; step-mother Dawn Hardin; two children, Ashley Bruns of Pekin and Maranda Hucal of Peoria. He also leaves behind his brother, Jerry Bruns of Pekin, two sisters Natalie (James) Wells of Mapleton and Debbie (Clemente) Salazar of Pekin; two step-brothers: Matthew (Tammie) Avery of Delevan, Mark (Amy) Avery of Delevan and nine nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
His father preceded him in death along with his beloved Irish Setter, Molly.
Curt was employed by the United States Postal Service. Prior to joining the Postal Service, Curt worked for Kroger for 5 years and worked in the finance community for the majority of his career. Curt proudly served in the United State Marine Corp. He graduated from Pekin Community High School and has an associate’s degree from Illinois Central College.
Curt was a wonderful and loving husband, father, son, brother and friend who had a big heart. He always had a smile on his face, and made sure everyone around him knew how much he loved them. He had a “unique way” about him that made everyone around him feel special, even strangers, as he greeted everyone with a big “Curtie” hug. Graveside services, which will be
commemorated with special military observances
will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, June 4, at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin. Father David Whiteside will officiate. There will be no visitation.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Illinois Cancer Center. A Celebration of Life / Benefit will be held on Sunday, June 5 from 12 – 5 p.m. at the North Pekin Amvets 169.
