Obituary for Chris Thomas
L. Christine "Chris" Thomas passed away on Wednesday May 6th, 2020 at Unity Point Proctor hospital. She was proceeded in death by her parents: Dallas O. Swearingen and Mary Francis (Bradley). She is survived by her husband Lawrence J. Thomas, her son, Josh (Nicole), daughter Anne (Chris Snyder) and sister Leslie (Bill) Rhoades of Decatur.
Chris was born and raised in Decatur Illinois. She was a 1967 graduate of Stephen Decatur High School. She moved to the suburbs of Chicago and lived with her Aunt and Uncle in the early 1970's. She met and married the love of her life, Larry, and married on June 29, 1974.
Above all Chris was the BEST Nana to Nolan (buddy), Addison (sunshine) and Finnegan (little man). She passed away on Finn's 8th birthday; she always had a special bond with him. The family would like to thank the amazingly compassionate staff of Proctor hospital who made her days in the ICU and final days as peaceful as they could be.
Family was the most important thing to Chris. She made a point to attend as many of her grandchildren's events as she could. She could often be heard cheering loudly from the sidelines. Her friends became her family and her home was always welcoming. She loved creating beautiful handmade cards and her family will donate many to the U.S. armed forces as she intended to do.
Her husband, Larry, and her were lucky enough to retire on the exact same day, appreciating the spoils of their work for 10 beautiful years. She volunteered her time and money to various religious, social, and civic causes.
She made the BEST pancakes, gave the BEST hugs, made beautiful cards, and always showed she was on YOUR side.
