Obituary for Charles "Bear" A. Owens
Charles “Bear” A. Owens, 77, of Marquette Heights passed away Thursday, September 11, 2025, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria.
He was born on December 17, 1947, in Peoria to Loren H. and Edna L. Atkins Owens. His parents and brother, James Owens preceded him in death.
Charles married Linda G. Allen on October 31, 1970, in Peoria; she survives. He is also survived by his children, Kim Ivey, Shane (Syphronia) Owens, Shelly Owens; grandchildren, Aaron (Tabitha) Newell, Alyssa (Christopher Sawatzky) Newell, Isaac Hackward, Jenna Owens, Dylan Missey, Keagan Missey, Zachariah Missey; great-granddaughter, Hazel Mae Newell and sister, Ruth (David) Martin.
He served in the U.S. Army and was proud to be on the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in 2022. Charles worked for Kroger until retiring in 1998.
Charles loved his family and was proud of them. He also loved his neighborhood cat, Buddy. He was an avid Euchre player, enjoyed riding around on his golf cart, a cold Pepsi and going out to eat. Charles was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bears fan. He was a member of the Marquette Heights Men’s Club and a long-time member of Spook Hollow. He was also a Marquette Heights Alderman.
Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at 12 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at Center Tap in East Peoria with a Euchre Tournament starting at 1 p.m. in his honor.
Memorials may be made to the Greater Peoria Honor Flight in his name.
