Obituary for Carroll Lee Cook
Carroll Lee Cook, age 75, passed away peacefully in the home of his loving daughter and son-in-law, on February 9, 2022, following a brave battle with cancer.
Born on March 10, 1946, in Peoria, he was the son of Carroll L. and Helen M. Cook and was the second of nine children. He attended Greeley Grade School and Woodruff High School. Shortly after high school, he was drafted into the Army where he served honorably with the 1st Cavalry Division. He was a Vietnam veteran and a Purple Heart recipient.
Carroll’s adventures eventually led him to Alaska, where he worked for the Army Corps of Engineers. During his time in Alaska, he loved spending time in the outdoors and went on many fishing trips and hunting excursions with his dear friend, Paul Yancey.
In the late 1980’s, Carroll returned to Peoria where he re-started his career as a concrete finisher. As a member of the Local #18 Finishers Union, he spent the rest of his career working for C&G Concrete Construction, where he eventually retired in 2009.
Enjoying his retirement, Carroll spent a lot of time on the golf course and enjoyed watching dirt track racing and NASCAR. He was an avid Fighting Illini basketball fan.
Carroll was an amazing father who dedicated his life to raising his kids. He loved watching his kids get involved in sports and never missed a practice or game, which eventually earned him the nickname "Super Fan." When his daughter was younger, he enjoyed taking her to dirt track races for special one on one time, which they continued to do for many years. Later in life Carroll also experienced the joys of becoming a grandpa. He was very involved with his grandkids and loved every moment he got to spend with them.
He is survived by his three children, Nicholas Cook, Joseph (Tara) Cook and Chelsea (Matt) McCarrell, all of whom reside in Peoria and the surrounding area. Carroll is also survived by his siblings, Ora M. (Guy) Fisher of Wasilla, AK, Sharon L. (Rick) Drake of Pekin, Gerald W. (JoAnn) Cook of Pekin and Rebecca A. Dringenberg of Wheatland, MO; and many grandkids, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Judith A. Greene and Debra S. Goodin; and two brothers, Thomas E. Cook and Joseph R. Cook.
Memorial donations in his name can be made to the Alaska Fish and Wildlife Conservation Fund (www.alaskaoutdoorcouncil.org [alaskaoutdoorcouncil.org]).
Chelsea, Joe and Nick are extremely appreciative of the thoughts and prayers from family and friends during this difficult time. They invite you to share fond memories of their dad or a message of support by visiting www.csmico.com/obituaries [csmico.com].
The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co., in Pekin, IL, is assisting the family with arrangements.
