Obituary for Carmilla Thompson
Carmilla E. Thompson 79, of Pekin passed away on Sunday November 15, 2009 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center. Born in Pekin on May 7, 1930 to George and Mary Pampson Menssen. She married Vernell Thompson in Pekin in March of 1953. He preceded her in death on July 29, 2008. She was also preceded by her sister Constance Fisher and grandson Andrew Thompson. Carmilla is survived by her sons Steve (Nancy) Thompson and Michael Thompson both of Pekin and her 5 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. She attended the OSF St. Francis School of Nursing and Western Illinois University where she received a Bachelors degree in Science and Biology. She worked in the Radiology Department at Pekin Hospital for 39 years, retiring in 2002. Carmilla was a member of the Council of Catholic Women and St. Joseph Catholic Church where a funeral mass will be held on Wednesday November 18, at 11 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to the mass. Father Pat Fixsen will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. Memorials may be made in her name to St. Joseph Catholic School. Abts Mortuary has been entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
