Carl (Charlie) Howard Lindberg, 79, of Peoria, Illinois, died Saturday, December 13, 2025, at home.
Charlie was born on January 11, 1946, in Detroit, MI, to Esther and Folke Lindberg. After graduating from St. John's Northwestern Military Academy in Delafield, WI, he attended Bradley University, where he became a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. He met his future wife and love of his life Patricia Brummer, on a blind date. Pat and Charlie were married on May 31, 1969, in Galesburg, IL.
Charlie grew up in Detroit, and being half-Swedish and half-Finnish, it was only natural that he played hockey. Hockey was a huge part of his life, playing throughout his youth and semi-professionally for the Peoria Blades, which were the predecessors of the Peoria Riverman. After retiring from playing hockey, he coached in Peoria for both high school and travel teams for over 40 years, winning many tournaments and championships, and molding the lives of countless energetic teenagers.
In Charlie's professional life, he was a salesman for material handling equipment, then in his later years found meaning as a substitute teacher.
He was an avid lover of family, fan of the Detroit Red Wings and Lions, and BBQ and deli meat (pastrami!) connoisseur. His other great passions were sailing, spending time at the family cottage in Michigan, and traveling.
Charlie was preceded in death by his wife, Pat, and his parents, Folke and Esther Lindberg. He is survived by his sister Janet Johnson of Traverse City, Michigan; his children, Kara (J.P.) Kramer of Johnston, Iowa, C. Matthew (Lindsey) Lindberg of Peoria, and C. Samuel Lindberg of Chicago; and five grandchildren, Lindy, Nina, Marley, and Wade Kramer of Johnston, Iowa, and Shalom Lindberg, of Peoria.
Services will take place on Tuesday, January 6, 2026, at University United Methodist Church in Peoria, where Charlie was a member for over forty-five years. Visitation will be at 2 pm with a memorial service at 3pm in the sanctuary.
