Obituary for Bettye Thompson
Bettye Thompson, 87, of Peoria passed away on Saturday, February 9, 2019 at Unity Point Proctor Hospital.
She was born February 25, 1931 in Birmingham, Alabama, the daughter of Frank and Geneva Lail. She married Bert Thompson on June 19, 1954.
Bettye is survived by her sister Priscilla, her son Eric, her daughter Kaia, her granddaughter Gretchen and her son-in-law Charles. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and her eldest daughter Kirsten.
Bettye graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Wisconsin with a Master’s degree in 1954. In her early career she worked as an Industrial Psychology consultant and a vocational counselor. After spending several years as a homemaker, Bettye was a successful Realtor prior to her retirement.
Bettye was an active member of the League of Women Voters, the Peoria Fine Art Society, Newcomers Alums, served as a docent at Lakeview Museum and a deacon at her church, and enjoyed concerts, plays, and continuing education at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute. She had a sharp mind, a quick wit and a generous heart.
Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held Saturday, March 2, 2019 at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Peoria. Visitation will be held at 10 am, followed by the service at 11 am.
