Obituary for Betty J Smith
Betty J. Smith passed away peacefully on February 19, 2018, in Farmington, Illinois. She was born September 17, 1925, in Manistee, Michigan, the daughter of John L. Maue and Lillian R. Arkin.

Babies, family, and friends were Betty’s passion and delight. We think all would agree, to know her was to love her. Her smile could turn on a light in a dark room. From her we learned that smiles really do have power.

In 1943 Betty graduated from Onekama High School, and married the love of her life, Paul R. Smith, in 1946. They made their home in Saginaw, Michigan, where they raised six children. There Betty devoted her life to her family. She became an exceptional mother and homemaker, her talents for cooking, gardening, and sewing were legendary. Retirement then took them to Tucson, Arizona where they enjoyed the final chapter of their lives together. They spent 51 years enjoying each other, family, traveling, golf, and crossword puzzles; they were avid fans of hockey and women’s softball. Paul preceded her in death on February 13, 1998.

Betty was also preceded in death by her son, Pat Smith, two grandsons, several nephews, two brothers, three sisters, and her parents. She is survived by her children, Mike Smith, Karen Holvey, Beth Stamann, Joel Smith, and Terri Trott. She adored her 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind numerous loving relatives and friends.

Betty requested no services or visitation. In accordance with her wishes interment of her cremains will be handled privately. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

A special note of thanks goes to the caring and loving community at Farmington Country Manor. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
