Bernard “Barney” Grens 90, of Pekin passed away on Tuesday July 26, 2011 at his home. He was born in Chicago to Stanley and Rose Drankiewicz Grens on December 28, 1920. He married Nelle Swisher on June 14, 1952, she preceded him in death on November 27, 2004. He was also preceded in death by his parents, brother and two sisters. Barney is survived by 2 nephews; Bob (Mary) Belz, Bud (Carol) Belz and longtime friends; Gary and Barb Barke, Travis and Ginnell Barke and Lance Barke. He served in the 745

Tank Battalion during WWII and worked as a Complex Equipment Man for Central Telephone Co. of Illinois in Pekin, retiring on March 1, 1983. Barney was a member of the Elks, Knights of Columbus and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin where a funeral mass will be held on Saturday July 30

at 10 a.m. Father Timothy Nolan will officiate and burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Pekin. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the St. Joseph Catholic School Endowment fund.
