Obituary for Barbara Hayes
Barbara Jean Hayes, 75, of Washburn, IL, passed away peacefully in her home at 2:20 a.m. on August 5, 2017, surrounded by her family.
She was born on January 24, 1942, in Peoria, IL, to Gerald A. and Dorothy E. (Stone) Freeman. She married Garry D. Hayes on September 22, 1979.
Her father, her daughter, Denise Christian and her brother-in-law, Lowell Winterland, preceded Barbara in death.
Surviving are her husband of 37 years; her mother, of Fairbury, IL; her sister, Betty Winterland of Fairbury, IL; her brother, Richard (Kay) Freeman of Rockford, IL; her sons, Robert (Sherrie) Turner of Land O Lakes, FL, Garry (Cindy) Hayes II of Des Moines, IA and Brian (Jen) Turner of Dunlap, IL and her daughters, Carrie (Dale) Jenkins of Lantana, TX and Michelle Durham of Wylie, TX, 26 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Barbara graduated from Richwood’s High School in 1960 and attended ISU. She worked in both the Peoria, IL and Washburn, IL school systems as an assistant teacher. Her faith in God was unshakable and she was an active member of her church. For many years, she cooked weekly meals for the local Teen Challenge ministry. She enjoyed being with her family, sewing, teaching bible study and serving others. Many of her beautiful blankets and quilts went to church ministries. Her family and friends dearly loved her.
A celebration of life visitation will begin at 10.00 a.m., August 19, 2017, at Glad Tidings Assembly of God church, 2201 E Washington St, East Peoria, IL 61611 with a service at 11:30. A meal will be served at the church following the service.
In lieu of flowers, please make memorials to Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church (Teen Challenge Ministry) or to Fairview Haven Retirement Community, 605 N 4th St, Fairbury, IL 61739.
