Obituary for Aubrey Fanning
Aubrey “Auts” Fanning, 85 of Peoria died at 7:55pm on Sunday, August 23, 2009 at Proctor Hospital. He was born on December 3, 1923 in La Grange, IL to Frank and Lena (Minehart) Fanning. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Frances Hughes, whom he married on September 18, 1945 at Cour d’alene, ID. He is also survived by his daughter; Linda A. Koos of Princeton, NJ, son; Brian Fanning of Iowa City, IA, daughter and son-in-law Cathy and Greg Russell of Peoria, daughter-in-law Carol Fanning of Danielson, CT, grandsons; Clifford Koos, Michael Fanning, Alex Fanning, Cody Russell, granddaughters; Melissa Fanning, Elizabeth Fanning, Nicole Russell, Kelly Russell, and one great-granddaughter; Leah Fanning. His son, David preceded him in death on March 21, 2000 as well as his parents, 5 brothers and 2 sisters. As a World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, he spent 1942-1945 fighting for our country in the Pacific where he served on the U.S.S. Louisville. He was a 1950 graduate of Eastern Illinois University in Charleston with a degree in history. This began his life long interest in the history of both the Fanning and Hughes families and three years ago he completed and presented to his family a two volume genealogy set dating back to the 1500s. He was active in the real estate profession throughout his career and at full retirement he and Frances retired to Charleston, SC and moved to the Peoria area seven years ago. Mr. Fanning has gone full circle in 85 years. He began his life in Illinois and passed into God’s hands in Illinois. Cremation rites will be accorded and his final resting place will be in the Fanning Cemetery in Ledyard, CT with graveside services at a later date. The family will hold a Celebration of Life at the home of his daughter, Cathy Russell 7515 N. Edgewild Dr., Peoria from 4-6pm on Sunday, August 30. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Association. The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. Pekin/Peoria is assisting the family with arrangements.
