Obituary for Arthur Fuller
Arthur F. Fuller, 85, of Peoria died at 9:30 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012, at Methodist Medical Center in Peoria. He was born July 2, 1926 in Duluth, MN to Frederic and Emmeline Fuller. He is survived by his wife of nearly 62 years, the former Miriam Eileen Hill, whom he married on June 10, 1950. Also surviving are Daughter, Joan (Thomas) Winkle of Peoria, IL; daughter, Gail (Wolfgang) Wiest of Berlin, Germany; son, Timothy Fuller of Rockford, IL; 4 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Stephen Fuller, and one grandchild, Anthony Winkle. He was a WWII Navy veteran serving in the Asiatic Pacific Area and the Philippines. By crossing the international date line, he was made a member of the "Imperial Domain of the Golden Dragon". He was never able to adequately explain to his family the significance of this. A 1949 graduate of the University of Minnesota, he taught Art and Social Studies in Wisconsin and later in Crystal Lake, IL. Daughter Joan was one of his (unhappy) students in art class in the 7th grade. He ruined her straight "A" report card by giving her a generous "C". After retirement from teaching, he worked as a guide and monitor at Lakeview Museum in Peoria. He was a member of the National Society of Literature and the Arts. He was a long-time member and usher at Salem Lutheran Church in Peoria. In his later retirement years, Art enjoyed complaining about local politics over coffee and cigarettes with a group of fellow complainers. Cremation has been accorded and a private family service will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be given to Salem Lutheran Church, 1700 W War Memorial Dr, Peoria, IL 61614 in his name.
