Obituary for Andrew Lopata Jr
Andrew A. Lopata Jr., 88, of Eureka Illinois passed away on Thursday July 1, 2010 at home. He was born in Baltimore, MD on April 1, 1922 to Andrew Sr and Nina Lishchuk Lopata, who were Russian immigrants. He married Margaret Elizabeth (Betty) Trainor in Pekin, IL in 1944. She survives. He was proceeded in death by both his parents, two brothers (Alex and John), and one sister Vera. He is survived by his wife Betty, his brother Tony, his three children Kathy (and Jack Magnone), Mike (and Lynda Lopata) and Andrew Lopata, five grandchildren and twenty one nieces and nephews. He was a U.S. Army veteran of WWII, stationed in Camp Lee in Virginia and Camps Ellis and Grant in Illinois, serving in the ordinance corps and military police. While in training at Camp Lee, he was seriously injured in a bridge explosion, but continued his service through the end of the war. He worked for Caterpillar Tractor Company in East Peoria and Morton in quality control, retiring after 38 years. He was a member of Eureka Christian Church and the Eureka Sportsmans Club. He loved hunting and fishing, the outdoors, spending time with his family, and sports of all kinds. He was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs and Bears and the Baltimore Colts. A lifetime carpenter and handyman, he built three homes in which his family lived. He was an extraordinary husband, father and grandfather who will be deeply missed.
