Obituary for Alicia S Verhake
Alicia Stevenson Verhake, 86 of Peoria, passed away peacefully Monday, December 19, 2016 at the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home with her family by her side.
Born August 24, 1930, in LaPorte Indiana, one of three children of Otelia and Harry Stevenson, Alicia married Thomas ‘Tom’ L. Verhake on February 7, 1953. Tom’s various assignments for Caterpillar Inc. took them to Jacksonville, Florida, Portland, Maine, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Peoria, Illinois. Tom preceded her in death on January 29, 2012.
Surviving are her daughters Sue (Steve) Mahany of Dunlap, Illinois and Carol Verhake of Berwyn, Pennsylvania.
Alicia graduated from the University of Michigan, where she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. Alicia enjoyed giving back and was the President of the P.E.O Sisterhood, Chapter KX from 2015 until her death. Her hobbies included gardening, traveling, knitting, needlework, following University of Michigan sports teams, and making Nantucket baskets. She was a member of the Westminster Presbyterian Church.
Cremation has been accorded. Services will be private. Memorials can be made to the OSF Richard L. Owens Hospice Home or to the charity of your choice.
