Do I have to use a funeral home?

No, the Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. can handle the entire process.

Does the body have to be embalmed?

No. We do not require that you go though the extra expense of embalming. It is not necessary for a person to be embalmed for cremation.

Can I still have a service?

Yes. There are many choices when it comes to cremation services. You can have a Memorial Service before or after the cremation takes place. You can have a Celebration of Life service at your home, church, lodge or any other suitable place, or a private or public graveside service at the cemetery.

Do I have to buy an urn?

No. We never require you to purchase any thing that you don’t want. We do have a large selection of urns but this is an option not a requirement.

If we choose burial do we need a vault?

Cemetery requirements differ from place to place. We can help you or your family at the time of need if one is required.

Why use the Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois and not a funeral home?

The Cremation Society of Mid-Illinois Co. takes the place of the funeral home. We handle the entire process. We are able to provide our services at a lower cost than most funeral homes because we don’t have the same overhead that they do. We specialize in cremation and cremation only.

Can I prepay for my cremation?

Yes. We are fully licensed to accept pre-need payments. Your funds are put in the IFDA trust fund in Springfield, IL. Once pre-paid, our services are guaranteed and frozen against inflation (in accordance with the pre-need contract).

What should I do if the death occurs in the middle of the night or on the weekend?

A funeral director is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You should feel free to call us at any time.

Will someone come right away?

f you request immediate assistance, yes. If the family wishes to spend a short time with the deceased to say good bye, that is also acceptable. We will come when the time is right.

If a loved one dies out of state, can Abts Mortuary - Cremation Society of Mid Illinois still help?

Yes, we can assist you with out-of-state arrangements, either to transfer the remains to another state or from another state.
