Obituary for Richard Cornelius
Richard Otto Cornelius, 83, of Peoria passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Heddington Oaks in West Peoria. He was born November 15, 1934 in Peoria to Otto and Luella LeConte Cornelius. He married Darlene Ruth Ertmoed September 20, 1959 in Pekin; she survives. He is also survived by his daughter, Terri Rene (Gerald Jacobs) Cornelius; son, Richard Brett (Yayoi) Cornelius and grandchildren, Jerri, Mackenzi, Rayne, Brez, Shyla and Jayden. His parents; brother, Robert Lee Cornelius Sr.; sister-in-law, Sharon Faith Nielsen and nephew, Robert Lee Cornelius Jr. preceded him in death. Richard served in the U.S. Army National Guard. He was a graduate of Peoria High School and Knox College where he was a member of Beta Theta Phi. Richard and his wife Darlene had a wonderful life together, traveling the world, enjoying family, friends and entertaining many. He was a member of St. Johns Lutheran Church in Bartonville. Cremation has been accorded and a celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or Limestone Township Fire Department in his name.
