Obituary for George "Del" Russell
George “Del” Delbert Russell, 87, of Peoria, IL passed away Monday, December 4, 2017 at Heartland Health Care Center-Riverview in East Peoria, IL. He was born April 2, 1930 in Clinton, IL to George Robert and Lila Violet Hefler Russell. He married his high school sweetheart Marjory Joann “Jo” Swearingen on June 17, 1948 in Clinton; she preceded him in death on November 24, 2016. He was also preceded in death by his parents; infant brother, Robert Junior Russell and son, John Mark Russell. He is survived by his daughter, Sara Kathleen Wade of Peoria, IL; grandchildren, Derek (Dawne) Wade of Pekin, IL, Jennifer (Mark) Rempe of Chatham, IL, Joanna (Darren) Williams of East Peoria, IL, Peter (Joy) Wade of Morton, IL, Beth Wade of Denver, CO, Lance (Angela) Russell of Peoria, IL, Eric (Shannon) Russell of East Peoria, IL and Cody (Tschara) Russell of Peoria, IL; ten great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. Del served in the U.S. National Guard and U.S. Navy Reserve. He worked as a meat cutter for Krogers, and later as a Dyno Operator and in research at Caterpillar, retiring November 1, 1993. Del was a well known woodcarver, winning many medals and blue ribbons for his museum class creations. He was an eighteen year member of the Rio Grande Valley Woodcarvers Club. He and his wife attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Mission, TX. The family is grateful for the loving care that the staff of the Heartland Health Care Center-Riverview provided him. A graveside family service will be held in Clinton at a later date.
